Originally part of the traditional lands of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains, North Adelaide is a key destination for those seeking examples of South Australia’s history and cultural heritage, across a wide range of contexts.

Anecdotally, Colonel William Light first envisioned the layout and design of the city of Adelaide from Montefiore Hill, in North Adelaide’s beautiful Park Lands, where his memorial now stands. North Adelaide has a rich architectural heritage, hosting a number of significant historical buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries.

North Adelaide is also renowned for fostering a strong and productive creative community, and is home to a number of prominent arts organisations, galleries and individual practitioners in the performing, visual and new media arts.
