30 Aug NAPA 2015 AGM

The Association held its 2015 AGM last Wednesday, 7 October. The event was held in The Wine Shed at The Kentish Hotel on Stanley Street, a fantastic space and one that we wholeheartedly recommend to anyone considering a function venue in the Melbourne Street Quarter. Thanks to Sophie, Bud and all the Kentish crew for your terrific hospitality!
Those in attendance, including State Member for Adelaide, Rachel Sanderson and Adelaide City Councillors Susan Clearihan, Phil Martin and Sandy Wilkinson, were welcomed by President David Johnson, who reviewed the Association’s activities over the past year. Outgoing Treasurer Adrienne Hender then reviewed NAPA’s financial statement (in the black!), followed by prominent local artist and NAPA member Emma Hack, who presented an overview of the StreetEAT and LastFRIDAY in North Adelaide initiatives, which NAPA has supported over the course of 2015.
The final order of business for the AGM was the appointment of committee members for the coming year. We are happy to announce that all positions were filled without the need for an election. Members of the 2015/16 committee are as follows:
- David Johnson – Johnson Lawyers
- Vicki Johnson – Brokers on Barton
- Emma Hack – Emma Hack Gallery
- Remo Russo – Veneziano Coffee Roasters
- Amin Chehade – Chehade Bros. Dry Cleaners
- Angela McCue – O’Connell Inn
- Shakti – The Garage International
- Morag Horton – Chemplus Melbourne Street
Executive positions will be decided at the Committee’s next meeting, on Wednesday 21 October. Keep a lookout for news as these appointments are finalised.
The committee would like to send a special ‘thank you’ out to departing committee members, Adrienne Hender, who has gone above and beyond over the past few years as NAPA Treasurer, and Kylie Schmidt from Perryman’s Bakery, who filled the role of Secretary over the past year.
Once the formalities had been concluded, attendees were treated to a highly informative and engaging presentation from Adelaide City Council’s Advisor on Retail Strategy, David West, entitled The Science of Mainstreets. It certainly gave everyone present, even those not in the retail sector, food for thought.
We also had the opportunity at the AGM to welcome two new members to the Association – Morag Horton from Chemplus Melbourne Street, and Michael Koukourou from Control Z, who has recently moved into the area.
Also coming up are the final two LastFRIDAYs – Halloween in October, and a food, wine, music & art spectacular to mark the Final LastFRIDAY for 2015 on 27 November. Finally, we are in the process of finalising our Christmas activities for 2015 and news about these will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.
